LE BENCH
Le Bench is a steam-bent hickory bench. The bent hoops, inspired by Le Nid, are assembled in a tight overlapping stack, topped with a leather cushion, and mounted on bronze legs.
The bent collection reflects a dedication to craftsmanship and the traditional techniques of woodworking and boatbuilding. Steam bending, a method for the careful contortion of wood, allows for the creation of forms that echo the graceful fair lines of wooden vessels. Some key characteristics are inherited as well. The designs are lightweight and visually delicate yet strong. In the case of the Le Nid, the flagship of the collection, the parallels become clearer still as the subtle yet constant swaying and turning of the chair emulate the movement of a boat on its mooring.
